And the winner is...

Contrary to recent polling results, the winner of the car search was the Mini Cooper. Wife and I await its (his? her? not sure yet) arrival sometime in the next 6-8 weeks. I will post a photo or two.

Here's to hoping the VW makes it that long without requiring any other repair work.

Dissertation time now. More later.

Yeah, thought about it for a sec. Moose's school is near a dealer. Those things are smaller-than-MINI small!

I dunno... don't they take premium fuel? I almost got one awhile back but went with a Jetta TDI. But I see you have your issues w/VW. :)

MY issues with VW? That comment makes it seem like this is just a little thing in my head. No, this is an entire decade of a cheap electronics & mechanical systems during a time in my life when I couldn't afford to buy a new one due to being a full-time graduate student. Yep, the MINI may require more expensive fuel. However, if the car works just half as well as the VW, then a lifetime of premium fuel in a car that gets 37 MPG will be far cheaper than maintaining a VW. Good luck with your Jetta.

No worries--I've certainly heard plenty of stories of VW problems, not trying to discount yours. Only reason I went VW was for the 40+ fuel economy, and I've saved buckets of cash. If Honda had a diesel car at the time, I totally would have bought that instead! So far no issues except a <$20 glow plug for me in 3.5 years.... hope that holds.
